Glen Iris Scorpions is a junior basketball club associated with the Waverley Basketball Association.  We have teams for boys and girls from under 8 to under 18.

We are a volunteer-run club.  All committee members, most coaches and other club officials are volunteers.  The club exists for the kids and there is an onus and responsibility on the whole extended club (players and parents) to help make it a great experience for all.

Our club encourages participation, team spirit and the social and sporting development of all players.

Waverley Basketball Association’s Competition is usually divided into two seasons per year.  The Summer Season runs from October to March/April during school terms four and one, and the Winter Season runs from April to September during school terms two and three.

Club registrations have now closed for the Winter 2023 season which begins in Term 2. Late registrations requests will be at the committee’s discretion and will incur a late fee of $50 per player.

Please note some important dates to get ready for the season:

  • Uniform sample sizes will be available to try on Thursday 2 March, 4-6pm at Waverley Basketball Stadium. The Uniform Co-ordinator will be in the canteen area at Waverley Stadium. Other club merchandise may be available for sale at the same time. Uniforms must be ordered directly via our supplier First Ever. Please forward any general uniform enquiries to: scorpionsuniforms@gmail.com
  • All U12 and U14 boys and girls must attend grading sessions for their age group, which will be held on Thursday 16th and 23rd March at Waverley. Players who do not attend the garding sessions will be placed in a team at the Age Group Co-ordinator’s discretion.
  • First games will be on 29 April with finals finishing on 17 September. Season playing dates can be found here: Winter 2023 playing dates

Waverley Basketball Association will introduce some changes from the Winter season:

  • Age group cut-off dates for the winter and summer season will change.
    • For the Winter 23 season, a player must remain under the age of competition as at 31 October 2023. For example, an U10 player must not turn 10 before 31 October 2023.
    • For Summer 23/24, a player must remain under the age of competition as at 30 April 2024.
    • Please note that the previously advised change of remaining under age for the entire calendar year has now been replaced with the separate dates for each season.

  • There will also be a new U20 competition available to interested teams, so players over 18 can choose to play U20 within Waverley’s junior domestic competition. Girls’ games will be on Tuesday nights and Boys’ games on Sunday nights.
